Because of various structural constraints, many critical scholars have argued that the overall impact of the media on society is the reproduction and reinforcement of the existing social order.
How can this happen with regard to: 1) the news media, and 2) the entertainment media?
The overall impact of the media on society is the reproduction and reinforcement of the existing social order?
That whole "Did we create a monster... or does the monster create us" relationship between the media and society. The media is an entertainment business. They are at the mercy of sponsors, pure and simple. Welcome to capitolism at it's finest. The media tries to represent real life as clearly as is profitable. Society in turn sees this as reality and conforms to the sociopathic depiction they see on the media and the hall of mirrors just keeps on going. It's all cyclical.
News media and Entertainment media are one in the same. They just have a different face painted on them. Both are there to get your money. They are both businesses with stock holders and bottom lines.
