What do you feel is the most prevalent social issue/concern in Britain today?

Do you feel that your perspective on this social issue/concern is influenced / affected in any way by the media?

What do you feel is the most prevalent social issue/concern in Britain today?
An increasing amount of television is taken up by 'fly on the wall' programs which serve up bad driving, drunkeness and violence as entertainment. This is bound to not only influence perspectives but also promote the subject matter as 'normal' or common behaviour, Older people see this stuff and are frightened by it, while some elements of our youth see it and emulate it. So I reckon the most prevalent social issue today is the minority of thugs and drunks who are ruining quality of life for the rest of us ... and yes, the media are as guilty as the perpetrators.
Reply:Whether or not changing the way we live in the UK will be a catalyst for change over the whole world that will really save human life on the planet.
Reply:Has to be immigration
Reply:I agree with Teddy, and this is causing cultural tensions, we are just a tiny island in Europe, yet why is it that everyone wants to live here???
Reply:Paedophilia - It keeps children on a choke chain and mothers on duty 24/7. The media without a doubt give a one sided view and fuel flames and it obscures our biggest problem still domestic violence of any kind by putting blame out on to the 'outsider and not putting the spotlight on the family.
Reply:Alcoholism, drug addiction, obesity
Reply:Feral youths. The yob culture in Britain today is absolutely disgraceful, the worst of it is, you can't even kill the little bastards and get away with it!
Reply:teddy, that is a small minded media feed answer. i have worked in voluntary sector for asylum seeks. the truth is that they cant claim benefits, instead that get food vouchers. They survive on very little. When they enter this country they are looked on and treated on poorly. A lot of services that are there to help them, turn them away or show little support due to attitudes like yours. And the truth is they have a right to be here! they are here because of westernised countries like England and America, going to 3rd world countries and stealling gold, medicine, oil and tobacco. It was there country that built our economy. Your just lucky cuz u have a white face and was pooped out on british soil. they have had to climb moutains to be here. show respect
Reply:teenagers and asbo's
Reply:Binge drinking - cheap booze - and yes the media does affect this - especially advertising for cheap booze (The supermarkets) but also the stories of out of control teenagers, makes me worried to walk past a group of youths for fear they are all tanked up and in attack mode - which I am sure is only a minority
Reply:the biggest is Immigration and the overpopulation of this tiny island.

Superbun, surely its obvious why they want to live here, free ride for many. There is a classic tale in one of the papers today, sorry can't provide a link, don't know how! but the basis is that an asylum seeker from Iran has claimed over 25 grand in benefits even though he has over 500 grand in the bank. They caught him out when someone went to his house to find his very nice cars, top of the range and a very nice property. And guess what he took his money out of the bank moved it elsewhere and told them now he has no money but £1 in the bank and they can't do a damn thing about it. and he is fighting to not be deported, what a ******** shambles.
Reply:Immigration/benefit spongers
Reply:Lulu is right. Alcoholism/binge drinking.

I would be very interested to read an accurate study on the true state of Britain in terms of alcoholism. I would say that way over half of the population is addicted to alcohol at varying degrees.
Reply:The justified collapse in confidence the British people have for their public institutions.
