I can't understand why the biggest proponents of "moral law" in this country are constantly being found out to be just as homosexual as the people they rally against.
Meanwhile, most happily married couples are very supportive of gay rights....
What is with this strange dicotomy?
(I'm looking for thoughtful, serious, speculation here)
Is the media misleading us, or is America really in a state of psychological and social denial?
It sounds similar to when Rock and Roll came to America, and people said our society was doomed. Or color TV. Or women voting, or well you see the point.
Anything to sell newspapers or keep us glued to the TV.
To scare us to vote against "them" and/or for "them". When it's THEM we should know more about.
Don't get disillusioned, please!
Stay involved in your LOCAL community elections and activities! This is where America still works, and is alive.
So I think I'll answer: Yes, and shame on them. But if we buy into their stuff without thinking - then shame on us, too.
KEEP THINKING!
Reply:While some people may preach "moral law" -- everyone -- not just Christians, or Atheists, or any other religious fall short of what they talk. Have you never talked the talk and not walked the walk, no matter your life philosophy.
Anyone can be a gambling addict, even a preacher. Anyone can be an alcoholic, even a youth minister. Anyone can have sexual deviations, anyone. This does not make these things right or proper. But like I said, we all fall short.
I am not sure I would agree that "most married couples" support gay marriage. I am married and I would say most married couples I know would not support it.
I think a lot of this is spin, spin, spin.
Reply:It is the Media. But, we are spiritually blinded by the world so as its harder for folks to really SEE what is happening.. we are blind sided by sin and things of the world.
Reply:it's called christians and their morally retarded 'standards' that they defend on a regular basis.
It causes people to think irrationally.
Reply:Little bit of both i say.
media is an Ignorant role model.
Reply:the US is second last in the world at accepting evolution (last is turkey) now although state and church should never mix, they do (in the US atleast)! Therefore the american media are served a delectable buffet of christian babble that they then inflict on the public. Now having such a huge following of the Christian faith, nothing sells a magazine more, puts more bums in front of tv's or ears glued to radios than a Christian leader having sex with either small children or prositutes. Only answer, is start teaching evolutionary science correctly in the US schools and people will soon see these Christian leaders for the hypocrites they really are, before these scandals are released, and the public will understand that a gay union is not a crime and in fact a right of all humans to be with the one they choose.
Reply:You need to get a good understanding of what hypocrisy is. When someone says a certain behavior is bad and then participates in that behavior, it means he is inconsistent. it means he is a sinner and a poor role model. When someone says a certain behavior is bad and then justifies their own participation in that behavior, that is hypocrisy. Given this definition, the charge of hypocrisy applies much less often to the Christian community and whole lot more often to politicians.
hy·poc·ri·sy Pronunciation (h-pkr-s)
n. pl. hy·poc·ri·sies
1. The practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness.
2. An act or instance of such falseness.
Christians actually believe moral wrongs to be sin and as believers stand against moral wrongs. But we are human too and are tempted just like everybody else. The only thing that makes us different is 1 we are forgiven because we have accepted the sacrifice of God for our transgressions and 2 we are trying to live up to the ideal standard set forth in the Bible. I haven't heard Mr. Haggerd say gay behavior is wrong except when he does it and I haven't heard him justify his actions. In fact he confessed to his board members before this hit the media, in fact it was one of the board members who released the information. He resigned his post acknowledging his wrong doing but denies any sexual activities happened. The prostitute who claimed to have sex with him failed the lie detector test so it would seem the pastor has spoken the truth and voluntarily accepted the consequences of the appearance of wrongdoing.
Now, when all the gory details are revealed and the story dies, nobody will remember to check back whether the guy actually was guilty of pastoral wrongdoing, but he will remain condemned by the public. Such is the nature of our political news machine.
The charge of hypocrisy fits better with the news investigators. They claim to 'only be doing their jobs' by digging up the scandalous, using the 'if it bleeds it leads' news business philosophy, yet when the attention of America is turned upon their own personal lives, they become indignant at the invasion of their privacy. So in essence, they believe they are autonomously responsible for revealing private secrets but are exempt from others prying into their own. This is real hypocrisy.

Reply:The media only wants to intice hatred because they believe its the only way to seek attention. Fear and hatred have become their propaganda.
Reply:I honestly believe that the "proponents" you are referring to are only using the idea of "moral law" as a way to get a certain group of voters to the polls.
If there is a question of making same sex marriage legal who is most likely to run to the polls to vote on that issue? The intolerant people who are appalled by the idea.
Most of us just don't care what other people do in their private lives. It's the ones who have been taught, "judge not, lest ye be judged," that want to bury their noses in their neighbor's bedroom.
If you stand on a platform based on something these people feel so strongly about you can get them to vote for you regardless of how horribly you screw up everything else.
Reply:It is an undeniable fact that Americans in general are in denial about themselves and the world around them.
Reply:If you are referring to gay marriage, yes it is a very big deal here...I live in America. Many people are for it and many people are against it. And orrientation/relationship status are not important roles in determining that.
Pro: Everyone deserves the right to be happy.
Con: In the bible the definition of marriage is "the union of one man and one woman". Therefore many Christians are 100% against the idea.
I hope I understood your question correctly?
