Could 'Brave New World' be updated to include iPods/PDAs or is it anti-social to have personal media tools

Could these devices be too individualistic to the super-communtiy oriented society of the novel? This book was writted even before walkmans.

Could 'Brave New World' be updated to include iPods/PDAs or is it anti-social to have personal media tools
Objects designed/created/marketed towards personal enjoyment have no purpose in community living. "Brave New World" would have people reading only state prescribed books and newspapers and watching only state prescribed TV (or movies), so it would naturally have the people listening to only state prescribed music.

Maybe an IPod/PDA would be in the hands of an anti-social terrorist seeking the downfall of the state.
Reply:I don't see why not. After all the drug of choice was Soma, and they could not direct the choice of hallucination.

By the way, don't you think that "Brave New World" is already here? The book was "writted" before T.V.
Reply:No, it can't be updated like that. The themes and story of Brave New World are influenced by more than just the technology available at the time. The book is unique to a paricular time's reflections on the future. We are in a different time and place, and our reflections on the future would be different as well.
Reply:this addition would ruin the great historical novel.. you cant include present fads into this novel because it would take away the readers imaginative drive during the novel. sorry but i think it would just be horrible
Reply:"writted" isn't even a word.

and hell no, why ruin a great book for modern society. Honestly, kids these days.
Reply:i dont think so... you know how they are
