Alternative and Underground media are usually more accepted by a younger demographic that are known for abandoning more traditional forms of media.
Said underground media can provide abstract thought (theoretically), fresh views and ideas to a younger generation that otherwise would not be interested in such politics.
What roles may alternative or underground media play in energizing active democracy and social movements?
They provide a view of the non-business owners and its affect on the working folks. They are also better in articles that are on the music scene that are not covered as well by the main newspapers in a community.
